Planning - Casting
With the script finished I needed to then cast actors for the parts. Due to the setting of the film the actors would need to suit it, a school, so the first, most basic guideline for casting would be that they had to be young, around the range of 16 years old.
The male lead was a charismatic, smooth talking man, similar to the performance given by Eddie Murphy in the Beverly Hills Cop series of films. This was a very simple casting choice as it was the same male lead that was in my preliminary, Surajkumar. He was easily able to perform in the same method as Eddie Murphy did while putting his own spin on things such as body language and lines. He was an easy casting. While he had very little acting experience, with only a few scenes shot I could tell he would put the effort in to give a great performance and there was no need to replace him.
Next was the female lead, she had to be a confident woman but also be quite clumsy. She needed to be shorter than Surajkumar due to the ideas I had in mind. My male lead, Suraj, proposed a girl called Misha Folkner, a girl who was shorter than him. I considered her and after learning of her involvement with multiple school performances and performances decided to cast her. She had blonde hair which allowed me to play on the stereotype that blonde women are clumsy.
Finally I required some supporting characters to fill some roles, a character to give snarky remarks as Surajkumar asks for direction and a character to give him the information. For the first one I got a person called Calvin Weston who was very skilled at pulling off the sarcasm and attitude I required, as for the last character due to restraints with people willing to help I performed the final role, putting my best effort to be an informative, uptight character.
With that, my casting was complete to the best of my abilities and limitations. The script has already been changed due to the lack of actors and I continue to work around these casting choices in terms of lines and how I can use their body language. I can now focus on producing an electronic version of the script with any and all changes made during recording sessions and then move onto editing the footage together.
